According to the Wisconsin DNR website, 49 State Parks, 15 State Forests, and 9 State Recreational Areas exist.
The state of Wisconsin manages these property types differently and categorizes each park under three different titles - State Parks, State Forests, and State Recreational Areas. Each one offers something unique and special. Whether you're looking for hiking trails, pristine lakes, or stunning scenery, Wisconsin has a spot that will be perfect for you. In this blog, I'll give you an overview of some of the best parks in Wisconsin. Keep reading to learn more!
Things to do in Wisconsin during any of the four seasons!
There's something special about Wisconsin's state parks. It could be how they encapsulate the best of the Badger State, from the north woods to the farmland of the south. Or it's how they provide a little of everything, from hiking and biking trails to camping and fishing spots.
So whether you're a lifelong Wisconsinite or just visiting for a short while, make time for an adventure in one of our beautiful parks.
The Joys of the Four Seasons in Wisconsin State Parks
Wisconsin is rich in natural beauty, and its state parks are a big part of that. There are many different activities to enjoy throughout the year, and each season has unique charms. In the spring, the woods come alive with color as the flowers bloom. The summer is an excellent time for swimming, hiking, and camping. Fall is a beautiful time to see the leaves changing color, and winter is perfect for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. No matter what time of year it is, there is always something to enjoy in Wisconsin.
A Wisconsin Winter Wonderland
A Wisconsin Winter Wonderland is a great place to hike! Be sure to check out some of our great forests or go to Copper Falls State Park. It truly captured the essence of Wisconsin Winter Wonderland. Who wants to take a hike in the middle of winter, right? Well, you'd be missing out, trust me! Be sure to head there after a fresh snowstorm to see the true beauty of winter. The snow-covered trees and the new tracks from all the little critters are a sight.
Wisconsin's state park system offers a variety of activities to keep you busy all year, including the winter. You can go sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, ice skating, or hiking.
Springtime in Wisconsin State Parks
Wisconsin is a beautiful place to be in the springtime. The state parks are full of life, and the colors are gorgeous. From the first blossoms of spring to the warm summer days, Wisconsin has so much to see and do.
Another great thing you'll want to catch is birds migrating back through Wisconsin earlier in the year. Each year, birds undertake an epic journey to reach their breeding grounds. This fantastic phenomenon, known as migration, is one of the most spectacular sights in nature.
One of the best places to see bird migration is at a lake or near a larger body of water. I have found two great places: Horicon Marsh (wildlife refuge) & Devils Lake State Park!
Summertime Fun in Wisconsin State Parks
Wisconsin offers a wide variety of summertime fun for everyone in the family. From hiking and biking trails to swimming beaches and playgrounds, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Two Places I recommend visiting during the summer months is Copper Falls State Park to see the waterfalls and hike the excellent trails (also be sure to check out the other waterfalls nearby). Also, a drive to Big Bay State Park to see the incredible cliffs & venture over to apostle islands! Be sure to catch some sunrises at the lake while you're out there. It is 100% worth it!
Fall colors in Wisconsin State Parks
As the leaves change color and the weather cools down, many people begin to think about heading outdoors to enjoy the fall foliage. Wisconsin is a great place to enjoy the changing leaves, and many places offer beautiful views.
High Cliff State Park is one of the best places to see fall foliage in Wisconsin. It offers stunning views of the Fox River and Lake Winnebago, and the leaves are beautiful this time of year. Another great option is Copper Falls State Park, home to some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state. The falls are even more stunning when surrounded by changing leaves.
If you're looking for a unique experience, Devil's Lake State Park is worth a visit. It is known for its unusual rock formations; the leaves are gorgeous this time of year. No matter where you go, you will surely find some stunning fall foliage in Wisconsin. So get out there and enjoy the changing leaves!
